Riverbed leads again in Gartner Group's Magic Quadrant for WAN Optimization Controllers Report 2007

Riverbed Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: RVBD), the technology and market leader in wide-area data services (WDS), announced today that it has been positioned by Gartner in the leaders quadrant in the “WAN Optimization Controller (WOC) Magic Quadrant” published in December 2007 and authored by Andy Rolfe and Joe Skorupa. According to Gartner, “Leaders exhibit an ability to shape the market by introducing additional capabilities in their product offering and by raising awareness of the importance of these features. WDS solutions from Riverbed(R) accelerate applications and data for remote offices, data centers and mobile workers across wide-area networks (WANs), making them run up to 100 times faster. WDS allow organizations to become more nimble, flexible, and competitive by dramatically speeding up IT consolidation, allowing higher productivity for remote offices, eliminating slow application frustration for end-users, dramatically shortening backup and replication time, reducing traffic on WANs, and enabling mobile workers to be significantly more productive.

According to the report, “Optimization techniques for wide-area networks (WANs) can improve most organizations’ application response times, particularly where network latency is high, which is often due to centralization of servers and IT resources. Typically, WAN optimization controllers (WOCs) serve to prevent network latency having a severe impact on the performance of applications and underlying protocols. Through data reduction and prioritization techniques, WOCs can also help organizations avoid costly bandwidth upgrades.”

“We believe our leadership is reflected in our customer base of over 3,000 companies, including over 20 percent of the Fortune 500,” said Eric Wolford, senior vice president, marketing and business development at Riverbed. “With our industry-leading number of customer wins and innovative product enhancements, we continue to prove our ability to excel in a market that we believe is less than five percent penetrated. In a world where workers are more distributed and IT is more centralized, Riverbed is the only vendor to deliver speed, scale and simplicity to the mobile worker, remote office and data center. This allows us to help CIOs address the performance pain point where ever it is. As business has accelerated, Riverbed helps smart companies step up the pace.”

This report positions vendors in one of four quadrants based on the companies’ vision and ability to execute on that vision. The four quadrants are Leaders, Challengers, Visionaries and Niche Players. View the report - Gartner’s Magic Quadrant 2007.

This recognition comes directly after Riverbed was identified in a recent Gartner report, “Market Share: Application Acceleration Equipment, Worldwide 3Q07″ (1) as the Advanced WOC (WAN optimization controller) worldwide market share leader for 3Q, 2007 based on revenue. According to Gartner’s market share report, Riverbed(R) sustained strong growth to maintain its lead. This is the 5th quarter in a row that Riverbed has maintained the leadership position in the Advanced Platform WOC category. In the same report, Gartner named Riverbed as the market share leader in the WOC category for the 3rd quarter in a row.
